I had to make a new install of Vista X64 after my old hard drive crashed. I also changed from a CRT to an LCD monitor.
After the main software installed and I was bringing up the desktop for the first time, I received the "oversize" error message from my monitor and the display blanked. I then rebooted into the "Safe Mode" and selected the low resolution option and succeeded in getting the destop to appear for about 15 seconds before the display blanked and gave me the "oversize" message again. I also tried to alter the display refresh rate to 60 and lower the resolution in the "Safe Mode" control panel, but "Safe Mode" would not let me alter the refresh rate.
I also called Princeton (monitor manufacturor) and they told me to hook up a CRT long enough to get the Vista system to come up and alter the refresh rate from the control panel.
I don't have a CRT on hand anymore, so I have to try and find one.
Anyone have any new ideas?
